Shagbark

New light casts not shadows, but potential. It frees the mind of its own vices, enabling the influx of new ideas, feelings and possibilities. It burns effortlessly through low lying gloom and brings vibrancy to what had always been left in the shadows. The problem with new light is that it is just that. Rarely does it last.

Two Faced

Fire is one of man's greatest discoveries. It has the power to bring warmth and reflection, and to both sustain and end life. Campfire lore is built around these principles, and the mesmerising glow of flame flows in stark contrast to the sporadic spark. They are so different yet come from the same source. As if two personalities of the same being; one the root--the mellow core, the consistent. And the other the short-lived adventurer, springing forth into the abyss. I find myself the flame, yet longing instead to be the spark. In the end fire dies, all to ash.

Tireless

Signs are typically discreet. I always thought they led to some destination, to some previously unforseen outcome. It ends up signs are often the circumstance. They still lead, don't get me wrong, but too often in the opposite direction--back to the black hole, to the rut from which you had so tirelessly tried to escape. What we used to say in words we say in silence.

Light sets the mood, as it always does, most vividly in the waning hours. No more poignant is this than in the canyon country. Here light creates the evening, kissing goodnight and bringing vibrancy to even the bleak.

Fertile


Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. I've found lately that my previous conception of beauty has been, in fact, lacking. Minds set parameters, and it takes either a shock to the system or an unyielding will to inflict change. I got the former.
