Aftermath

I cannot complain about where I live so long as I'm rewarded with evenings like this. Of all the things I miss from the Midwest, there's surely no substitute for western sky.

Radiance

Starting my own life 2,000 miles from home has not been easy. Still, I have had plenty of help along the way. Family, friends, and co-workers have all contributed in one way or another to make this new beginning for me as easy and enjoyable as possible. To these individuals I owe my greatest debts. Don't kid yourself, you know who you are.

Follow

Darkness brings with it a cold, shrewd uncertainty. Shedding some honest light can bring even the darkest places a bit closer to home.

Trail's End

Sainta Elena canyon, Texas. The Rio Grande slices a vertical column through granite, dividing the land of the free from our neighbors to the south. Not that rivers can't be crossed, we simply opted not to wade. Instead we just threw rocks at Mexico.

Passover (Part III)

Part III in Scotty's leaping series. Everyone has their own way of getting around in life, of moving from point A to point B. Some drive, others walk or run. Still others fly.

Passover (Part II)

We don't always land on our feet, do we? Some find this out harder than others. Sure we all get knocked around from time to time. Don't get the job. Don't get the girl. Don't get the grade. But there's more to life than accolades. There's always the simple pleasure of living.

With a faithful leap, passing over the many uncertainties in life. Fly, Scotty fly...

Shed some

Strange, we seem perpetually concerned with what surrounds us on a day to day basis that we tend to dismiss what oddities lay beneath our shuffling feet. Bathed in darkness and visible only by our most vibrant, unnatural vice.

Stick

I spent twenty minutes watching this little guy create his silken masterpiece. Inch by inch he effortlessly spun--oblivious to my company. I took the time to capture a cricket and stick it in the web. After a bit of trial and error the pesky bug finally stuck. Ten minutes later I returned to find Mr spider wrapping his silky snack for a rainy day. How fascinating.

Thin Air

A nice shot from Sequoia NP in California. This is on the trail up to Alta Peak, elevation 11,200 ft. This was the tallest mountain I have ever climbed, and my 57 year-old dad did it with me. The views from the top were even more breathtaking then I had hoped. We could see across nearly 2/3 of the state of California, from Mt. Whitney in the east to the western Coastal Range. Oh how I miss the summer.

Sun Spots

Arches occur both in nature and at the helm of manifest destiny. One takes millions of years to form at the hands of erosion. Winter upon winter. Cracking, freezing, and endless erosion. The other rises to its form in a few years time. Bolt by bolt. Welding, hammering, and endless polishing. Which is more impressive? Which is more significant?

Saddle Up

Windows offer glimpses into the past and present. They can also illuminate what's right in front of you.

Floored

Like a convoluted M.C. Escher masterpiece, some stairways seem to lead nowhere.
